About

Hello! I'm Kaustubh, born and brought up in Mumbai and recently completed my MA in Cinematography from MetFilm School, London.

I started my career working as a Product Design Engineer, after having finished my Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. While working as an engineer, I also started pursuing photography and eventually got working as a freelance photographer and videographer.

My work mostly involved shooting 'Behind the Scenes' for commercials and feature films, architectural photography, corporate headshots and interviews. It is while working on set and seeing how a camera crew functions and appreciating the work of DoP’s that I decided to pursue formal training in cinematography. It gave me the much-needed knowledge and experience on lighting, collaborating with Directors, and Producers, and other departments to execute a successful shoot schedule.

 

As a cinematographer I have worked on short films, documentaries, and commercials. And also have experience working different roles in the camera and lighting department on a variety of projects. This experience has allowed me to understand the importance of different roles, such as 1st and 2nd AC, Gaffer, and Spark.

Collaborating with Directors, Producers has made me realise how different departments such as Production Design, Costume, and Make-up can be helpful in creating meaningful images. And, how the script dictates the images that we see on screen.
